Question:

Question about baby proofing house?

I have a computer desk in my baby's room. Yes, I realize this is not ideal but we don't have any other choice at this time. There are a lot of cords underneath the desk. I have seen tubes that they sell that you can wrap around the cords in order to hide them. Does anyone know where you can find these? I am trying to make the house as safe as possible but we live in a really small house with limited options. Thanks so much!

  1. Welcome to my world!  Well, as it used to be.  Our "office" was also the baby's room.  We lived there until he was about 18 mos old, and were then able to move to a bigger place where he has his own room (altho now the computer is in the master room, which is a whole other story!)

Anyway, not knowing how old your baby is, I would just make sure all the cords are in between the back of the desk and a wall (if possible).  Otherwise, a crawler can try to pull him/herself up and yank the computer and peripherals down.

My husband was able to find this black accordian looking thing for one of our TV cables... it holds together 2 cables and protects them from chewing.  I think it was an electrical cover of some sort.

As for cord covers, I found one at Office Depot online to give you an example see below).

Our little one mostly just slept in his room, so we didn't really give him a chance to play in there and get into anything.  His play area was downstairs in the living area... and we gated the stairs.

    Anyway, I hope this helps!

    Good luck!

  2. Have you checked a major computer store like Best Buy. They might have them or have you checked Babies R US?

  3. I'm sure at any computer store like best buy.

Here's also a website on safety:

  4. Try computer stores.  That's where we got ours from.  They may have the tubes or reels too where the cords can be wrapped around.

  5. you could easily take paper towel tubes cut them length wise and presto you have a cover. But I know Staples and walmart sells them. p.s. your baby proofing your home, did you remember to bolt up your tv, dressers and desks to the wall?
