Question:

Question about boot camp?

My friend wants to enlist in the Marines, but for a few years he's had off and on stomach problems (a lot of viruses, frequent diarrhea, a lot of foods don't agree with him). He had tests done and nothing major came out of it, but they can't figure out what it is but are leaning towards irritable bowel syndrome. It doesn't affect his everyday life usually unless he gets a virus or sick or something and then its worse.. So with off and on stomach ailments.. do you think he'd survive boot camp??

  1. yes and if it got bad in basic they would have him in the hospital and then he could find out for sure if you get sick in basic they want to know why right away because don't forget once you take the oath you are government property

  2. I had the same problem have him ask his doc to test for h-pylori, and I guarantee he will have it, after 2weeks of antibiotics and bad diarriah it will be all gone! Most docs dont screen for it!

  3. Yes he could survive it; mind over matter! My husband is an enlisted Soldier, I remember 8 years ago how boot camp was for him, and have heard it is easier now. I also know the life of the Army all to well. My husband is currently serving his second tour in Iraq. I am sure your friend thinks he knows exactly what he is getting into; perhaps he does. But as a friend it is your job to see that he does! And make sure he looks at all branches of service. I have three brother n laws. One is an active duty Airman. The other is a Marine boot camp profile drop out. And the other is not military affiliated. My husband and I have said numerous times that if we were to do it all over again, we'd go air force! Have him talk to an air force recruiter, their tours are shorter and they are known for treating their families better. I love my life as an Army wife and I am proud of my husband and all his service.....and am very envious of my sister married to an airmen for the last 5 years who has not had him leave ONCE on any tour of any kind!

  4. Boot camp is a rough place to get sick even a cold.

  5. Yes. He could make it through boot camp but he should consider well the challenges before trying. If he has an occurence during boot camp, the drill instructor will likely not give him a  lot of slack...he would probably be sent off to a medic who would prescribe rest for a day...the DI would say that he doesn't have to honor orders written ty a medic. In short, if this is a fairly routine occurence, that might happen several times through boot camp, he might be better off to not try.

Boot camp is tough..it's meant to be...but it's doable....

  6. he would probably get vary strong. they tell you when you can **** and when you cant. you brake there rules then you get smoked. that's the bottom line!

  7. yes

  8. He would survive but why in the world would he want to be shipped off to Iraq:?

  9. If his IBS flares up during boot camp he will be put on profile for awhile. If they determine that he cannot function as a Marine they may chapter him out on a medical discharge. Depends on exactly what the problem is and the severity. I am sure that he can survive USMC boot camp.

  10. he could survive. it's all on him if his up to it and he thinks that won't get in the way then go ahead but if he's not positive i wouldn't join.

  11. Man o man if he is having problems with his stomach you get a lot of food, and if he can't keep food down he will definitely not have enough energy to do the physical aspects of bootcamp. Also if he is having diariah problems he will not have access to a bathroom when he might possibly need it. I think until they can find out what it is, and if they can treat it i would just wait.

  12. its alot of work  i watched my husbands  air force boot camp  so im sure they might be the same   its alot of exercize    he should get more water  and take  the pills that  stop  bowel movements and  the other medicine that   makes u p**p   and if its diarrhea  than  have cheese  and water  it might help
