Me and my girlfriend are having a little argument bout what size cat carrier to get our 3 month old kitten. She saying to get a small one because she suppose to lay down in it,not stand up.

Im saying to get a medium sized or big one so she can have room to move around in.What size pet carrier would be the best to get a 3 month old kitten?

  1. Cats normally feel more comfortable in smaller carriers. They feel safer and tend to relax better in smaller carriers. And smaller carriers are easier for your girlfriend to lift & carry around.

But if you think your cat is going to be LARGE like if he has very large feet to grow into, and you can not afford a new carrier later then buy the medium now for him to grow into.

If you want the safest carriers and plan to spend more than soft carrier the best is Sherpa or SturdiBag.

Hard or plastic carrier look for Vari Kennel or Sky Kennel or any carrier that has nuts and bolts (not plastic clips, latches or dials they often fail and cats get loose in strange places)

  2. When deciding on carriers, you need think about the future as well. Your kitten is only 3 months old. Cats don't stop growing until they are around 2 years old. Needless to say, your cat will get bigger.

So I suggest a medium-sized one. Big enough for all ages.

  3. I would go with the larger size because the kitten won't stay that small forever and you'll want to have something to grown into.

I myself have a pet carrier bag, but my cat knows how to open the zippers, so I think you're better chance is with a medium to large size carrier.

  4. It depends on what you need the carrier for.

If it's just for vet trips, then small is probably fine, as long as she still fits when she's grown.  She won't really need to move around and many prefer to just cower in the corner when it's vet time anyway.

But if you're going to travel much with her in the car then you need a big one so she can stretch her legs and there will be room for food, water, and a little litter box.

If you ever plan to fly with her she will need a soft sided carrier and it will need to be small enough for her to fit under the seat.  That is assuming she stays with you on the plane.  Requirements are different if she gets treated like baggage.

So basically, if you need to have her in the carrier a lot try to get one where she can move more but if she'll hardly be in it at all then walking around really isn't important.

We have a couple Sherpa carriers from when we had to fly with ours.  They don't give them much extra space but they only need them to go to the vet any more so it's fine.  They like them and actually nap in them when we leave them out. They look nice and the shoulder straps make them really easy to carry.

  5. I would just get a carrier that you will be able to use for the whole of the cats life.  We have a 4 month old kitten and he is fine in our carrier, which we also use for our 11 year old cat.  The kitten can stand up in it, but has never come to any harm.

I would think long term if I was you, otherwise you will be wasting your money.

    Hope this helps

  6. I've got a 13 pound cat and he can sit and stand in his carrier, he hates it, so he is usually balled up in the corner of it anyway, I put a little towel or blanket in there too, I think I do that so I feel better, remember you're not a cat owner, your cat just has 2 people to do what he wants now.  Have fun
