  1. who cares what other people say

  2. any horse can be a hot horse

but i think anyhorse that is patient enough for children is a golden horse no matter the breed

btw i love the elegance of standarbreds i think they are cute and pretty horses!

  3. My VERY first horse was 1/2 Standardbred.  She could trot faster than she could gallop.  BUT she could gallop.

Is your Standardbred a trotter or a pacer?

IF you can get a good solid 3 gaits (Walk, trot and canter) on him, there's no reason he can't go over fences, BUT that's the biggest beef most non Standardbred folk have, the difficulty in trying to put a solid slow canter on them, because if they broke into one on the track, they'd get into trouble.

My old mare stood 16.3 and had the patience of Job when it came to us kids.  I think I loaded about 6 kids onto her at one time to see how many of my friends could "fit".

  4. It is never a good idea to make generalized statements.  That is like saying that all Blondes are dumb.

  5. they say that because they do not no what they are talking about and they are SEA COWS!!!!!

  6. I work with standardbreds for a living.  I am an owner and trainer.  Retired standardbred usually make nice pleasure horses.  As far as jumpers that may be tough.  Since all their lives they have had to keep on a trot or pace, it takes time and patiences for them to know its okay to canter but can be done.  These horses are very smart, they are worked around and on all of the time.  Worthless??? Far from it!  (And spell check is wrong - it is spelt with an "a" :))

  7. I think that standardbreds are NOT useless. If he is not hot and unpredictable, then he is an ok horse.those people that say that are being 'breed prejudice', they're judging by their own opinion on that breed of horse.

  8. Any time you have a high number of any breed that is retired from its discipline (racing, in this case) to a secondary career, you will find people who claim they're "worthless" because they can be had for so little money, or even for free.

It doesn't mean anything about individual horses, as yours proves.

  9. I live in Florida, and like Thoroughbreds, they are pretty easy to attain. However, I've had several friends that have owned them, and I currently own one. Their trot is a little bumpy, but they can be great trail horses. Mine used to be used as a lesson horse. I guess it's really just a matter of opinion. You form your own opinion.

  10. Some standarbreds can be very hot and uncontrollable. It all depends on how they were trained and retrained. It seems like you got a good horse, but some standardbreds aren't that way.

  11. Well, they may say that because their standardbred is worthless because they never trained it or anything and now they all blame it on their horse...in my opinion, standardbreds are great! They are also excellent trotters!
