Question about pointe?

I danced ballet for 9 years, but have not danced for 2. I am 15 years old and I am planning to start dancing again. When I start, would it be alright to take a class en pointe? Would this be harmful to my feet? Dancers only please.

  1. You should be fine, otherwise, I would start at ballet without pointe shoes. Dancing rules!

  2. you should be fine just break in the shoes first and if i were you for the fist couple of classes i would just be demi-pointe just to get used to it again

  3. Hi,

I suggest not taking classes en pointe.  What I would do is spend a little time restrengthening and conditioning your feet.  I can give you some excersises for strengthening not only the arches, but also the inner muscles which are difficult to strengthen but vital for pointework.  Just email me if you're interested in that.

Honestly, I would take a short class en pointe after a few months, and get back into the swing of things.  Just regain control and the feel of being in the shoes.  I wouldn't hop right into it though.

Hope this helped.  Feel free to contact me with further questions or if you want those excersises.♥

  4. it could be because your feet need to get the feel back. maybe for one year just try without and ask your dance teacher she would have the best knowledge!
