Question:

Question about registration renewal in NJ?

I have to go to the DMV office to renew my registration, since I never got the notice in the mail. To renew it, they have told me I'll need to bring my license plate # with me (no problem) and my insurance card.

My concern is that my insurance card has a NY address on it, since that is where I have the bills sent and that is where I garage it. (its my 67 Chevelle, I garage it at my dad's house, he's got extra space there).

Are they going to deny my renewal due to insurance card showing NY? I do have an NJ Drivers License.

Thanks.

  1. Does the ID card say NJ on the top?  If it does, it is a NJ policy & you can renew your NJ registration.  If it says NY on top, it is a NY policy & either the car needs to be registered in NY or you have to get NJ insurance on it.

The mailing address should not matter, you can explain that as you explained it to us.

Also, when I was in NJ, they never asked to see the actual ID card, you just needed to fill in the company, policy # & effective dates on the renewal form.
