  1. That is freezing. I would be wearing my 4/3 if i was you.

  2. throw on ya wetsuit ya gloves and paddle out there ...where do u go rockaway?? mtk we go everywhere

  3. 45 is still pretty damned cold.  If you have a really good 3/2 you might be able to do it though.  Booties and gloves will be a must.  Water is around 52 here right now and I'm on the verge of dropping down to a 3/2 and not wearing gloves anymore.

  4. You can even go without a wetsuit. The Coast Guard will eventually locate your body. I will be wearing a 4/3 with booties AND gloves until it gets into the fifties, then I shed the gloves. By 60, I'm in a 3/2 shorty and by sixty-five, it's board shorts and a rash guard. I hate being cold, but I hate wearing rubber, too. Go thicker my friend, or you'll only suffer instead of having fun. I hate to push one vendor over another, but the link below is in south jersey, and might be a place to look for a bargain.

  5. More power to you if you can handle that temp with a 3/2.  I have always heard the rule of thumb that anything below 55 degrees, a 4/3 is necessary with gloves & boots and you probably would need a hood too.  Around here, the water never gets below 55 and I use a 3/2 with boots when its that cold.

  6. I've gone surfing with a 3/2 suit during the winter, with gloves and booties as well.  It depends how much you can tolerate the cold.  If you want to save some money and layer, I've worn rashguards under my wetsuit to give that extra warmth.  If it's too cold just make sure you're not alone when you go surfing so you have other people to help you in case of emergencies.

  7. Use it whenever you want, it depends what you feel comfortable with. If you think the water is fine like it is, just wear some board shorts, but if you think it's too cold, wear your wetty.
