Question:

Question about surrogacy?

My aunt is 45 and has had many miscarriages and failed attempts. I'm only 16 but (willing to wait) I would love to give the gift of life to her because she has done so much for me. What age can you be a surrogate mother? Thank you!

  1. Most surrogates are over 21 and have had at least one child before.  There are a number of reasons why this is the case the most important one being that bonding inevitably occurs between mother and fetus.  A Woman who has already gone through a pregnancy and childbirth will have a better idea if that bond is something she can walk away from or not.  Since you have not had a child, you do not really understand the sacrifice you would be making.

And, not to be rude, but your aunt is rather older to become a new mother.  If she is very interested in raising a child, she can do so much quicker by going through foster to adopt programs or domestic adoption of an older child.

    Peace,

    Jenn
