Question about using a driver?

Question

when I use a driver the ball doesnt go far and usually goes to left or right but when i use a 3 wood it goes further and usually dead straight so what am i doing wrong, and can the answers be detailed so i understand

Sounds like you are hitting at the ball rather than Swinging the club.  It also sounds like you are coming "over the top:( Swing from outside in).  If your late  with your hands your ball will go to the right If early you go left.

i have the same problem...hitting drivers seem harder than hitting a 3 or 5 wood.

Put some time on the range switching back and forth from the threewood and driver.  Remember swing the club, just let the ball get in the way.  Once you get a rhythim it will seem a lot easier.

You have discovered what researchers have been saying for years: the average amateur hits his three wood further and more accurately than the driver.

The reason is twofold: one, the three wood has a shorter shaft; and two, the three wood has a higher loft. Both of these mean that you will be able to control the ball more. If your ball goes 220 straight, you will end up further down the fairway than with a driver that goes 250, but 40 of those yards are lost in a slicing or hooking curve.

That said, one thing you might look at is how steeply you're bringing the club into impact.You can bring in a three wood fairly steeply and get a good result. The driver generally requires a more sweeping motion.

You just have over-concentrated on one club the only thing I can think of to help would be to just practice and learn from mistakes and expirience. Hitting with the woods and drivers are the hardest part of the game it is the easiest part that could lose you the game. this is the exact reason driving ranges are made for.

I would suggest getting a higher lofted driver, I think you can go up to about 12 degrees. If you are hitting the 3 wood longer, this is because it is a bit shorter and has more loft - therefore easier to control.

hi. answer is easy . unless you can shoot in the high 70s hit 10 out of 14 fairways stay with the 3 wood .more accuracy shorter shaft . no loss of distance . stay with it , golf is tough game , harder to play from the rough  stay  with what works best . leave the driver  out , put in  lob wedge  scores  reduced  thank you

This is actually a typical situation. For a long time I could not hit my driver as far as my 3 wood or even my 5 wood. The reason behind this that the driver is a much longer club. The longer the club, the harder it is to be acurate with it. Less accuracy means missed shots with the club face a little open or closed and shots go left and right.

The tricky part of it is fixing this problem. One of the best things for this is practice. Don't use the same swing plane that you use for other clubs because the club is longer. The longer the club the more horizontal the swing plane gets. The shorter the club the more vertical the swing plane gets.

Start your practicing with a short backswing. Don't worry about distance. Just get the ball going down the middle or at least at your target (the middle of the driving range can be a pretty wide area). Once you can consistantly hit the ball straight, then increase your backswing a little more until you are consistant again.

Develop the muscle memory of the proper swing plane for each club. Hope this helps.

that's because the way to hit...with driver,woods,iron,wedge is different.

try using a wider stance than yr wood...

hands further away from body...around fist...

wide swing...relax your arms...

in-out swing...

follow through...all the way...chest facing target...
