My wife and I are going to be staying at a hotel this week that, while not ritzy, is a little more upscale than we are used to. We have never had any experience with valet parking. I know that I need to tip the valet but I have two questions. First, what amount is right for a tip? Second, when do I give them a tip? When I turn the car over to them or when they bring it back to me?

  1. the proper thing is to wait till they bring the car back to you.. and 5 to 10 bucks is about right... if you really want to set yourself up right do this... give 5 when they pick the car up... and 5 when they bring it back. They WILL remember you and extend a little more hospitality your way.

  2. It is proper to tip the valet. If it is upscale then I would drop a 5 or 10 when they bring the car back to you.

  3. You always tip the valet when they bring the car back to you. Tips are usually $5 - $10 though you can tip whatever you feel comfortable with.
