I got one sitting of root canal done on tuesday and the doctor said because it was an emergency appointment she cannot complete it. She gave me appoitment for next wednesday and temporarity filled my tooth. She said she only cleaned it and more work has to be done before fitting a crown. Now I am unable to eat that side and if I bite without food it still hurts too bad. Its been 5 days already. I want to know if my destist should have completed the root canal at one go. She will numb me again next week to do remaining work. Is this right? I called her on weekend and told her that it hurts a lot if i accidently bite even without any food. But she still doesn't give me an appointment. Please help me. Thanks.

  1. Hi,

To do it correctly right, Root canal in a molar, a big tooth that takes a long time from beginning to finish. if she gave you a temporary filing or crown you're fine until your appointment.

  2. she has to take the nerves out, back teeth have two and front has one nerve.

by taking the nerves out she has prepared the tooth for filling and if it hurts because the tooth is empty and she may not taken the nerves out  completely. the Dr. auto. will take another ex ray to make sure unless she has messed up.

then they fill the hole with a pen which replace the nerves.

after temp. filling she will get the cap ready that means she will take the print of your teeth and then print of your empty tooth.

it take one week to do those.

so, make sure the Dr. will take another ex ray to make sure, if the nerves are out completely, the pens is set correctly other wise loose the tooth.

  3. If the nerve was already necrotic when she opened the tooth then it was correct to not do the root canal. In that case it's better to remove the pulp, instrument the canal system,  irrigate, place a medicament in the canals , place the patient on antimicrobial therapy and fill the tooth at a later visit.

If it hurts when you bite even without food it sounds like just need to have that tooth reduced a little. Cheers, and good luck.

  4. i had mine done in 2 sittings. i had pain for quite some time afterwards, but they gave me some pain meds.
