Question:

Question from an aspiring cheerleader

I have never cheered before. I have only been on a competitive color guard and winter guard. I am just starting at a community college, which will be two years, and then I will be transfering into a 4-year program at the University of Cincinnati, and at UC I want to try out for the Varsity Squad.

My question is this: Having never cheered before, what do I need to do these next 2 years on my own to be prepared for the tryouts?

  1. No one ever knows what the selection committee is really looking for so i don't want you to waste any time or money preparing. Is it just looks?  Who knows.  Tryout and do your best.  If 200 try out, it didn't matter what you do to prepare.  If 10 try out, you are on the team.  It doesn't seem possible, but sometimes life is better when you don't make the squad.  You are just free to be yourself. /
