Suppose you have a converging lens with a focal length 22.0 cm and you place an object 34.94 cm from the lens, what is the location of the image??

  1. i=59.4 cm

    1/o  + 1/i = 1/f


  2. Since the object is between 1 to 2 focal length from the lens, it means that this will be a real, inverted and magnified object.

    Using 1/f = 1/u + 1/v, where

    f: focal length

    u: object distance  

    v: image distance  

    1/22.0 = 1/34.94 + 1/v

    v = 59.4 cm from the lens

    The image will be found at the other side of the lens

    ie NOT the same side as the object.
