  1. FOR GOD SAKE DON'T DO ANYTHING YOU HAVE NOT BEEN SHOWN BY YOUR INSTRUCTOR!!! I KNOW.....

  2. I liked to fly more than I liked to study.  Getting behind in the book part makes the flying more mysterious and harder to master.  Keep up in the book.  Maybe even get additional books to study.  Knowledge is power.

  3. It had its challenging moments, Are you talking about the flying and the ground school or just the ground school?  The ground school really isn't that hard if you really want to do it, and find it interesting. However physics is one of my stronger subjects, its that whole "able to read, write English" that worried me.(Not really but I can barley spell my name without spell check.) The flying for me came pretty natural but sure there were times that I felt a little uneasy about leaving the area the first time by myself, and having to find my way back (with no gps). Or the first time you have to land a stiff direct crosswind solo. Or the first time you take off solo and think " well this is it...I have to put this thing down by my self". But it keeps getting easier the more you fly, and eventually, especially if you continue to instrument, commercial, etc. you will start  to ask yourself how you ever thought the private was hard.

  4. Yes.  Plenty hard.

  5. Depends on which part of it you're talking about. For me personally, the bookwork was no big deal, except for certain aspects to weather knowledge (the Jeppeson PP Handbook isn't too strong in the weather chapter.)

The actual, practical aspects of flying were harder for me. I started in a Cessna 152, which freaked me out in steep turns (45 deg banks) and especially in power on stalls, where one wing will drop down at the moment of stall. Unbeknown to me at the time, I have a fear of falling (acrophobia?) and the 152's kite-like handling and paper-thin doors brought that fear to life. The fact that our practice area in Long Beach, Ca is over the ocean didn't help (i.e., "watery grave").  I switched to the heavier, more substantial Piper Cherokee at my CFI's prompting and have never been happier. My learning progressed ten-fold after that, but getting over my fear of losing control and falling has been my biggest personal hurdle. I actually enjoy throwing the Cherokee around the sky and getting into "unusual attitudes", but I still HATE doing stalls over open water.

  6. It was quite easy after :-

    1) I learnt and understood the ground subjects thoroughly.

    2) Learnt all the procedures in detail.

    3) Applied my academics while flying.

    4) Trusted and followed my instructor religiously.

    5) Took interest and remembered all I was taught.

    6) Kept a cool head at all times.

    7) Was eager to progress in the fabulous aviation field.

Take up the course and you will never regret it.

    Happy landings.

  7. I, like answer 1, always wanted it...  studied the written and LEARNED it/USED it - not just memorized the answers.   And the flying was so much fun... solo'd at 20 and had my license at 40...

But, I know a few people that are not as adventurous and/or are more afraid of the plane... that slows people down a lot on the flying portion.  Nothing wrong with that - very good to be cautious and do it right and wait until you know you have it right!!  about me - skydiver, scuba, army infantry... so I get off on adventure and really GOING for it...  I don't know many other people that got their license at hour 40....

And, I will admit.... did some CRAZY stuff not long after 40...  all with good results, but I coulda been dead a couple times....

  8. In retro spec everything seems easy.  Since you asked.

Aerodynamic, radio procedures, interpreting weather data,

airplane performance charts, navigation and flight planning.

It's all confusing at first just like any new subject .But its worth it.

  9. It was a piece of cake, I always wanted to fly so I was eager to learn which made it easy.
