Question:

Questions about a cat

I adopted an 11 year old Siamese cat from the pound and I brought her home a couple of days ago and noticed quickly that she wasn't eating which I figured was normal behavior while she got used to her surroundings, but I'm getting worried now because she also hasn't drank water too much. How long is this type of behavior supposed to continue for? Is it natural? Is there anything I can do to interest her in food/water? Is she just being finicky? I have another cat that's fine and she mostly just ignores him. Could she be sick... or just ready to die? Thanks.

  1. No one can honestly answer this question without looking at the cat, you need to seek a vet to answer these questions.

  2. She is definitely being finicky.  However, if the behavior continues, she should be checked out by a vet.

It is not unusual for a cat to drink very little water and not that odd for it not to eat.  The question is, how long can she keep it up.

If she continues not to eat and becomes listless, she needs to be seen for sure.

Was she not checked out at the pound?

  3. My inlaws had the same thing happen to them their son left his cat with them and the cat seemed like he didn't eat or drink nothing.  But don't worry give it some time she will eat and drink sooner or later hopefully sooner than later.  Think about it like this when your gone and everything is nice and quiet the cat will come out drink some and then go back to what ever she was doing. She will probably be doing that until she becomes comfortable with her surroundings.
