Question:

Quotation Question?

Just curious (I'll give an example in a second), when you have somebody ask or exclaim something in a quote for a story, would you capitalize the next word after the quote?

Ex.

"Oh, wow!" said Bob.

or is it capitalize "said"...

"Oh, wow!" Said Bob.

I know I could say, Bob said, but if you're just introducing a character, then you can't give away the name.

Ex.

"Oh, wow!" the woman said/said the woman.

or caps?

"Oh, wow!" Said the woman/The woman said.

Same goes for question marks before a quotation mark?

"Oh, really?" said the man.

"Oh, really?" the man said.

Thanx in advance...XD

  1. "You do not capitalize the 'said' after quotes," Rachel said, "only the person's name or proper noun first."

"You're so freaking awesome, Rachel!" said Josh, "Will this person make your answer the best answer?"

"I don't know," she answered. "I guess we will have to wait and see."

  2. The  excamation and question marks are included in the sentence, the same thought...therefore capitolizing is not necessary. Quotation marks also can be inside a sentence.

  3. Lower case "s."

"Said Bob." is not a complete sentence.

Notice (from the previous sentence) that if it is in a quotation,

even a period can appear in the middle of a sentence.

  4. "Oh, wow!" said Bob.

This is the correct way to write it, without capitalizing the word "said".

    Hope this helps!

  5. No, you don't need to capitalize it.
