Question:

RAINING.. in the summer?

My bf is in Florida for a week vacation, and he tells me it rains there in the afternoon for about 15 minutes tops. Why??!? I'm so curious :)

  1. He probably gets a passing shower from the sea breeze front.  This front progresses inland from the coast as the land areas warm.  This warm air rises and causes the relatively cooler air over the adjacent ocean to move inland, acting as a sort of cold front.  Showers and thunderstorms typically form along it.  Once the front passes, the air is stabilized and additional rainfall is unlikely.  This can repeat for many days.


  2. To put it simple, in the afternoon, the heat builds up, allowing the moisture to get into the atmosphere. This can build clouds and small afternoon showers and thunderstorms can develop. They are usually relatively small and pass by very quickly.
