Question:

RV Air Conditioning?

When I turn on the Air Conditioning I can hear the motor come on but there is nothing blowing out of the vents.

On the roof inside of a plastic housing there is a shaft with a fan, the fan is for a type of radiator, well this fan does not move when I turn on the AC either.

How do I fix this?

  1. first off, if you plan on doing this yourself, make sure to cut the power to the unit.  also, use insulated gloves.  anyways, it's probably a bad fan motor or a bad fan relay.  (power not getting to the motor somehow, broken wires...etc.)  most likely a bad motor or bad fan relay though.  i don't know exactly how an rv a/c works but it looks to me like it works like a window unit.  on a window unit the condenser (outdoor) fan and the evaporator (indoor) fans are usually powered by the same motor and are on the same shaft.  you've probably got a bad motor or a bad fan relay.  the radiator you mentioned is the outdoor (condenser) coil.  research the make and model of the a/c unit and try to find where the fan relay is.  take it off and take it to autozone and get them to test the coil and contacts.  (it's the same principal as testing a car's fuel pump relay and a/c relay).  if the relay is good, it's probably the motor and the motor can be tested using the same tool as testing the relay (even though the autozone people may not be best for diagnosing the motor but they might have a clue).

  2. The fan should come on.This is a freon unit and the blower motor should come on.The blower motor is what pushes air out the vents. You probably need a new blower fan or check for any fuses and or breakers to see if they are blown or tripped..Good Luck..
