I plan on going to Germany. I was wondering how my race would be treated or if I'd race discrimination. I'm Native American, African, European and Middle Eastern. Would I have a lot of problems? Please post. Thanks.

  1. About 10 of the people living in Germany are not German..and they are come from all over the world. It's sad that people often have a prejudice against Germany and they think there are a lot of racists here! An example..2 month ago there was a blaze in a house and 9 Turkish people died (women and kids) it was really sad! Most Turkish papers blamed racits for that..like "first you burned the Jews not you burn the Turks".  Then they (also Turkish specialists) found out it was just a tragically accident probably coused by the kids themselves whilst playing with fire! In Germany there's less racism than in other coutries but stupid people are everywhere...but if there's a racist incident in Germany the world press speak about it...when the same happens in any other counrty no one paper really pays attentention!

  2. I'm African American, and I've had problems in Germany.  It's easier for white foreigners to lead a life in Germany, because they can blend in with the populace.  (For example, as long as they don't betray their foreign accent, then they can go almost anywhere on public transportation without being hassled.  For some reason, my white foreign friends don't see their skin color as a big advantage.)

EDIT:  Have any of you that gave me a thumbs down ever really experienced racism?  Have you seen your young children's eyes because they have been racially insulted in the past?  Have you experienced a group of drunk youths insulting two black women, (my daughter and I), when we were leaving our sports club?  The list goes on.  It's not fun.  I take this person's question VERY seriously, because I've experienced this in Germany.  I sincerely hope that these things never happen to you, because it's no picnic.  It's very demeaning and frightening, and I'm an adult!  How do you think my children feel or do you care?  Do you even think about others?

  3. Germany has a lot less racism than the USA or the UK.

  4. I am African American and have lived in Germany with my white, German husband for years. While there are still issues in the East, I think you will be fine. We live in Berlin and have found it to be a very multicultural city with lots of Turkish people, Africans, Chinese, Americans etc.

I totally disagree with the woman that said there are a "lot" of problems in Germany - I don't know where she went but I have been all over the country and have never had an issue.

By contrast when I come home to the US I ( where I HAVE had problems) I find that my husband and I get a lot more stares than we get in Germany.

  5. You won't have problems. Germany is as free of a country as America and racism is just as common there as it is here.

And yes, people from all over the world live in Germany

  6. Race shouldnt be a problem but one thing Germans hate is tourists who make no effort at all to speak German.

If you can learn 10 words before you arrive it will go a long way.

  7. Depending on where you go, you might be... "one of your kind", to put it that way. The majority of the people living in Germany are white, but I don't think you'll have any problems. Every country has its idiots (Germany as well as the US) but most people are very open.

  8. you could have more problems in eastern germany and in some areas. But that`s like in other countries.i don´t know why. but the germans have no problems with peoples from the USA (however to be there race ) than from the middle east.Be friendly and open for the germans and they do the same.Hope you have a great time here.

  9. my ex is black and my boyfriend is asian and we've never experienced any racism even though I live in EAST Germany,

  10. Berlin is a far left city.   You will see many races there.
