Racing License?

I need to apply for both a Groom's License and a Galloping License. I know I have to take a test for the galloping licencse...does anyone know what it envolves...other than taking a breeze at a track? Also, what exactly do I have to go about doing for a grooms license?

  1. To get a grooms license you usually just have to have a trainer to work for who will sign for your license.  The galloping license might be different from track to track but you usually gallop a horse on the training track with the outrider or a steward watching you.  Some tracks will start you out with a conditional license which restricts you to the training track or to only certain hours (when the track isn't that busy)  Good luck!!!!!


  2. It depends on the licensing requirements for your state or the state in which you plan on being employed. Check with the racing commission of your state to get a complete list of requirements to obtain licensing.

  3. if you have the galloping license (exercise riding license) you dont need a grooms license becaues they work in levels. a trainer can do everything below him, ride, groom, hotwalk yatta yatta.  if you work for a good trainer who your exercise rider license will be under you wont have to do a galloping test.
