  1. That means how hard/dense the rain is.

It is sometimes different for local station but for the national one, it is this.

    Green- Light Rain

    Yellow- Medium

Orange- Middle of Medium and Hard

    Red- Hard

  2. The RADAR you are speaking of is called Doplar RADAR. the same type or radar the the police use to track your speed as you are driving. With that said. the color codes on the Doplar are measured in decibles (dbs). For each range of decibles is coded with a color. Green meaning trace amounts or light rain, to purple meaning heavy rain or even hail. There are additional color codes for mixed and frozen precipitation.

  3. Yellow is heavier rain and red is even heavier, probably with lightning.

  4. It all means precipitation.

Ususually there is a key on the radar map, with color codes regarding INTENSITY.

Usually green is light, yellow is moderate, and red is heavy precipitation.
