Radio broadcasting?

Hello,

I would like information on the history of radio broadcasting: technology, programming format, ownership, law and regulations, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. That's a very, very big question. You could write books on almost any portion of that list. I suppose you could break it into eras:

    1. Development of technology, finishing with the arrival on the air in 1920.

    2. Development of programming, as networks developed and a regular schedule formed. This lasted through the 1940's.

    3. The post-television era, as programs moved to video leaving radio to scramble for programming. Music essentially filled in. Then came the 1970's with the rise of FM and its better fidelity; news/talk slowly became dominant on AM.

    And that doesn't include government licensing of public airways, restrictions on ownership in multiple markets, etc.

    So do some searches on specific areas, and have fun.
