How bad is the weather in Thailand during September? Is it still worth going?

It does depend on where you are going but in general the rain doesn't last that long and the sun comes out again.  

One benefit of getting a hotel in September is that most of the hotels are still on "low season" pricing.  Fewer tourists mean more good deals on hotel prices.   Pattaya in particular is not too bad during September.  

Just have a fold up umbrella in your carry bag and you will be okay.  If it rains just stop for something to eat or drink, go in a mall or see a cheap movie - the sun will come out nice and bright!  Rain often falls at night time when you are asleep.  

Some minor flooding until the drains can handle the deluge, an inconvenience but not the end of the world!

If you can avoid the rainy season which is July to October, it would probably be best, but if you can’t, the rain isn’t permanent – it comes in bursts and cools things down after it has gone!

The weather in Thailand is reasonable most times of year, although it certainly gets hot during the summer! November through February are the coolest times of year and there is certainly less rain then than at other times in the year. However, Thailand is a big country with a diverse landscape. There is somewhere to visit whatever time of the year you visit the kingdom.

The best time to go to Thailand's beaches is Dec - March, apart from peak holiday times.

The worst time to go is probably May - Oct, especially on the Andaman [west] Coast [heavy rains].

The Gulf [east] Coast has a much less heavy rains than the west coast but longer, from June - Dec.

Thailand's best overall sightseeing [i.e. non-beaches] time is the cool season, Nov- Feb. Worst is April - Sept, hot and sticky. March -May is the hot season. The rainy season is June - Oct.

Definitely worth going! It isn't half as bad as you may think. The weather and the rain are warm. Not icy cold as it usually is in northern climes. Even if you get soaked, no big deal.

Furthermore, it doesn't rain all day long. The sky often suddenly getss very dark, which is the sign to run for cover. In about 10 minutes the rain really hoses down. But it's over in half an hour.

Just buy yourself a large umbrella and don't let it spoil your holiday. Nothing unusual if it doesn't rain for two weeks. So you might get lucky, and have a rain free holiday anyway.

Actually, historically, it rains more in the first half of October than any other month.

It does get soggy, and the traffic in Bangkok gets nasty, but Thailand is always worth coming to.  You should be able to get a good deal on your accommodations and any tours you take because it is low-season.

Depends on where abouts in Thailand, but I think September is the rainiest month in the Andaman ocean, we've been to Samui in September and had great weather and a bit of rain in Bangkok.

Even during the rainy season in Thailand there is many hours of sunshine almost everyday. Normally when it rains it is only for an hour or two. Often the rain falls late at night when you are sleeping.

It's is considered the worst month to come.  But still it depends on where your going.  Expect periods of heavy rain maybe for no more then an hour or so and then bad to being hot and humid again.  You could also go south and get caught in a monsoon and get a lot of rain.
