Question:

Ran a red light.?

Firstly, I would just like to say that I was in the wrong for doing so and will accept any fine or punishment I may receive.

I run a red light at a pedestrian crossing last week, I have no excuse why I did it, I didn’t do it internationally and thankfully, nobody was on the crossing. I have looked on various sites to see what points or fine I could receive if I was caught.

However, I have come across a lot of conflicting information. I have been driving less than 2 years and this is my first serious error. If I have been caught on camera, what would the outcome be?

  1. first of all i dont know what internationally has to do with this but lets move on from that...red light cameras do not affect your license or driving record in any way, they just go immediately to a collection agency if unpaid and damage your credit

  2. dont worry i bet there is loads of people who do that as ive seen loads of people run a red light at crossings where i live

  3. If the decision was mine, I'd have you in prison quicker than you could blink.

My daughter and I were nearly killed a few months ago when a car ran a red light at a pedestrian crossing.  I reported it to the poice, but they said without a registration number there was nothing they could do as the lights did not have a camera attached.  I could have screamed the place down.

Getting caught by the police would be the least of your worries because if you were caught by ME, it would be YOUR blood that would run on the streets and not mine or my daughter's.

You are the lowest common denominator.

  4. Yeh, its a standard penalty of £60 and 3points - most cameras are empty anyways - I misjudged one a few months back, got flashed and heard nothing. All you can do is keep your fingers crossed.

  5. Possible suspension attached to the letter in the mail.

  6. International red light running is a very serious crime.

Now you're on a watch list. Way to go.

  7. i think if you are caught speeding twice in the first 2 years, you will be banned and have to retake the full test, theory included!  As this is your first offence, you should just get a £60 fine and 3 points on your license! Take care!!!!!!!!

  8. Red lights means stop & pick a prostitute..what country are you in?

  9. if its local go back to the lights and look for a speed camera nearish the lights .... there are cameras that look near enough like speed cameras but they take a pic if you run a red light ...... if there isnt one stop worrying and pay alot more attention next time you drive usually you would get a ticket within about a month

  10. If you have been caught and this is within the first two years of you passing your test you are in quite big trouble. You could face a 1 year ban and be forced to retake your test.

  11. "I simply meant the light changed to red as I was on top of it."

Which means it was amber BEFORE you were on top of it.

Amber means stop as well - so why didn't you...?

  12. you have got away with it. hardly any have cams and the 1s that do quite clearly show there is camera

  13. i think you have got away with it to be honest if you got caught you would  of had 3 points put on your licence and a £30 fine. i think you are out of your probation know so you have 12 points to play with how ever if you are still in your first 6 months you only have 6 points to play with. dont worry about it you would of seen the flash of a camrea and if there was a traffic officer around he would of chassed after you so i think you would of got away , just take more notice of the road next time .

  14. If you were on top of the red light as it changed you were probably right to proceed but you seem to have been going too quickly. You were lucky no one was there. Not sure about penalties. Hope you will not receive any. Be more careful. I think you have learned from this experience.

  15. As someone has already said, if you get fined it could be £60 and three points. Because you have been driving less than 2 years, any further offences could well result in the loss of your license.

You realise that what you did was a stupid mistake and hopefully you have learned from it.  You WERE lucky that nobody was hurt or worse and people have been killed by such an error.

The ball is now very much in your court.

My advice would be to take this, and the other comments on board and pay more attention whilst driving.

We ALL make mistakes while on the road, it's how we act on them that defines our ability as drivers

  16. usually 3 points on your licence and a fine of about £60

  17. OMG, isnt every1 on here so quick to judge and i doubt very much they r all perfect themselves!

Dont worry urself 2 much, u rnt a criminal!

    Goddluck, x.

  18. You were lucky no-one was on the crossing, if it were up to me I'd throw the book at you.
