Novocaine, used as a local anesthetic by dentists, is a weak base (pKa = 8.95).

What is the ratio of the concentration of the base to that of its acid in the blood plasma (pH = 7.40) of a patient.

    6.6 = 8.95 + log [BH+] / [B]

    10^-2.35 =0.00447 = [BH+] / [B]

    [B] / [BH+] = 223.8
