Rats, are they good pets???

Question

I was thinking of getting a rat but don't really know a lot about them. Can anyone help? Please if you don't care please don't write something stupid. I already know that they are socail pets and need at least one more rat but I don't quite know what they need in a cage, what they eat, or even how big of a cage two rats need. I have a hamster but she sometimes bites. So, I was wanting to get other opinions on them.

If you can help me thanks if not its ok.

Rats are great pets.  :)  Smart, loyal, and very affectionate.

Wire cages are best, and the bigger the better.  Mine like to eat Harlan Tekklan, but Oxbow is a good food, too.  But, they also really like fruits and veggies, and so you should feed them a good variety of foods.  :)

The more time you spend with them, the nicer they'll be.  Generally, males are kind of lazy and get larger, and are 'lap rats'.  Girls are usually more active, and so they won't cuddle as much.  Of course, that changes a lot based on individuals.

How I got into rats was I thought they might be a good pet, so I found someone who ran a rescue.  By talking to them, I got a lot of GREAT advice, and adopted some wonderful rats.  So I really recommend you find a rescue willing to help and guide you into how to pick out a good cage, and rats that met your expectations.

Rats are very sweet and intelligent, however they get very big!! You need a large cage with interesting things for the rat to play with like tunnels and such.  You can purchase rat food at the pet store and of course they need plenty of water.  They are quite easy to care for, just change their cage at least weekly or twice a week.  They need lots of love and attention from you, their owner as they are very affectionate.  I had a rat and she rode around on my shoulder and in my sweatshirt pocket...they are lots of fun!

rats are amazing pets, not to mention they are incredibly cute :) i have 2 females and totally reccomend them to everyone, they shouldnt bite if they have been looked after properly at the pet shop/breeder. they are more than happy to run around the room climbing up your leg/arm when they want to.

please dont just get one as they are very social and enjoy company of other rats. get 2 brothers or 2 sisters.

Rats are soooo sweet.

  mine have NEVER bit me

Right now mii girls are in a Guinea pig cage and have a nice amout of space but they arent done growing.....

      My friends own rats and one has her rats in a large rabbit cage and then the other has hers in a ferret cage thing.
