  1. It depends on how young the children are as to what you can expect from them.  If they are pre-school then choose a short book with lots of pictures and be sure to keep the book turned so that they can see the pictures. Read with a lot of expression & sound effects. Stop occasionally to  ask  a question -- that will keep them involved so they will pay more attention.  Don't get up tight about it.  If you have fun then the children will too.

  2. Great site:

    http://www.dltk-teach.com/books/index.ht...

  3. For yonger children 4-9...try books with repeative lines...something they can remember and read along with you ... when it comes to that part.

  4. You could start with this hand game:

    I wiggle my fingers

    I wiggle my nose

I wiggle my shoulders, I wiggle my toes

Now there are no more wiggles left in me

And I'm as quiet as quiet as can be!

  5. Just pick a good book- something funny or weird. Then read and look at them and sound interesting and aska couple questions here or there. If you start to lose them get more animated. my son is 4 and the 2 activities you mention are are too sophistocated for that age group.

We went to the library, read book, made a related craft. no biggie

  6. A good way to keep them entertained is to read with exitment, make more pauses at the end of sentences make noises depending on the story, more your hands more. But also depends on the age and personaly, the younger the better to keep entertained. I do lots of readings to little kids at my school lately because of some project.  And at the drawing activity tell them to draw the part they liked the most of the book or something they liked of the story.

  7. Firstly, do read with some tone and body language or perhaps some tools such as puppet hands works as well, plus ask them for certain words that are not sound familiar to them and explain to them back, try not to read and read at your story book, it will bored them. Secondly you might ask them to do some activities about drawing/games  of animals related to your story. Make it fun and educated.

Good luck, btw kids are fun, you would get used it.
