Real Pilots/FSX Pilots...Landing Question?

When i was flying in fsx, before they had me go around, the told me i was number 4 to land (obviously this means im the 4th plane to land) but what should i do because was struggling because i was so close to the plane in front of me....what is the proper procedure?

Please put your computer game (FSX) questions in the "GAMES" section where they properly belong. This section is for questions about real aircraft, not "pretend" ones from a computer game.  You're not a pilot flying an plane, you're a gamer playing a game about flying an airplane.   BIG difference.

well what do you mean close?because if your in a waiting line your meant to circle the airport till your turn, and you cant land untill the plane before you is off the runway.usually the tower will tell you when to land.

If I were you, I would decrease my airspeed. By doing this, I could create a more comfortable gap between me and the aircraft in front of me. Also, more time would be given to the plane in front to taxi off the runway (and prevent a go-around for me).

Maybe the gamers don't know the answer to this question pilots. So instead of chastising him you could of answered it.

OK before you were told to go around you were number four to land. So you needed to give the other plans time to land you can do this by reducing air speed but keep it above your stall speed.  If you are still to close. You could do what is called an S turn ( basically you fly a big S in the sky. Turn way from any parallel runways). Or if you need even more room you can do a 360 degree circle.The last two require controller clearance at towered airports and enough spacing from aircraft behind you. Lastly you can go around and try not to get too close next time.

You are supposed to manage your speed and give the plane in front of you enough room to land and get off the runway before you land.  In a real world situation the controller would tell you a speed to maintain to help keep separation.  MS FS was not programmed extremely well when it comes to sequencing people to land in that they will put a C-172 in front of a 747.

In a real flight situation stay higher than the airplane in front of you.  This allows you to turn and climb in an emergency if you run up on the lead plane too fast.
