Recgarding FDIC Insurance?

IF I OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH MY SOUSE AS A JOINT OWNER AND SHE OPENS AN ACCOUNT WITH ME AS A JOINT OWNER, BOTH ACCOUNTS IN THE SAME BANK-- THEN ARE WE COVERED FOR 200000 OR ONLY 100000

  1. It sounds as if you'll have 2 accounts with both your names attached to them and they'll each be insured for $10,000.  My advice is not to joint your accounts-ever.  You never know what your spouse is capable of if you get divorced.


  2. The FDIC insurance is by social securtiy number.  Therefore you would be covered for only 100,000.  You could get around that by opening a single account as a "POD" account with each spouse as the other's beneficiary.  Of course, in a divorce settlement, all bets are off!  Best advice...open a joint account in 2 different banks!
