Question:

Rechargeable Batteries?

I plan on purchasing rechargeable batteries (and a charger), but they are obviously more expensive than disposable (alkaline) batteries. I intend to use them for products that are used frequently or use a lot of power (like a digital camera).

Should I buy rechargeable batteries for products that don't use that much power or are not used often, like a TV remote control or a flashlight that would be used if the power goes out?

  1. Rechargeable batteries are fine if you intend to use their charge over a short period of time as they self discharge quite rapidly.

I now use disposable batteries in my camera which gets used very little as they tend to hold their charge.

Using rechargeable batteries in remotes etc is a bit of a no-no for the reasons given above. Use disposables or you will be forever charging them.

  2. For me rechargeable batteries can save you more money.

  3. I think the opposite is true -- you should buy rechargeable batteries only for cases where the batteries are used often. If you need rechargeable batteries I recommend http://www.batterytex.com -- they're a great online batteries store that has batteries for all applications.
