Has the influence ultimately been for better or worse?

First, you have to know the truth about them.  They had been off the Mayflower for maybe three days when they started robbing Indian graves.  They wrote about this in their journals.  What they did to the native Americans was shameful.  They were greedy, arrogant and intolerant--so, yeah, it would seem many Americans did inherit their character and values.  

(Don't look at me; everyone on both sides of my family was in Germany until the early 20th century.)
