Recording films to DVD?

I was given a Sony RDR-YD555 VCR/DVD Recorder for X-mas. Now when I try to record films off of my DVR from satellite, it tells me I won't be able to record off of a copyright protected movie. I'm not selling it, I just want to download to DVD. Am I out of luck, Any thoughts ? Thanks

  1. Better to just record direct to the dvd and skip the dvr.
