  1. paper, card boards, bags, plastics, chemicals, glass bottles, mettals, non metals, machines, wood etc

  2. Everything can be recycled or re-used! Depending on where you live, glass, paper, cardboard, steel & aluminum cans, white office paper, plastic containers are accepted at recycling centers. Leftover food can be recycled as compost ~ used clothing,if wearable, can be donated;if not wearable, quilts, and all sorts of items can be made from material.Computers can be remanufactured and/or separated into scrap. . .you can even use dryer lint with a layer of wax on a ball of it to start a fire.Newspaper is what's used to make blown cellulose insulation. . .old carpet makes great garden mulch or put on weeds to keep them from overgrowing. . .grass clippings will feed your garden with nitrogen. . .those plastic net bags that onions come in can be turned into pot & pan scrubbers.Cellophane can be put in the bottom of houseplant pots to retain moisture, fill cracks before caulking/painting ~ one of the coolest recycling things I've seen is broken dishes put in plaster or cement as mosaic-type interior or exterior house decoration. If you think about it, landfills are a terrible concept; aside from wasting so much, the diseases that breed in a dump are disgusting. Junkyards are recycling centers for automotive parts & scrap metal. Do an internet search & you'll be amazed at how many reclamation projects there are!

  3. The best and easiest thing to do is to contact your waste management department, usually found in the government pages of your phone book.  I find it is best to recheck every now and then, because sometimes they change what the will take and don't do a great job of advertising.  In my area, we can recycle ALL paper, including cardboard boxes which are flattened (recycling our cereal and waffle boxes has reduced our trash considerably). This also includes old books of all varieties (hard covers torn off), magazines, office paper, and my nemesis, junk mail.  They also recycle plastics #1-7 (this was recently changed from #1-3), glass in clear, amber and green, and aluminum and steel cans. In my area, they ask that the paper be kept separate from the mixed recyclables, by either using separate bins, or putting the paper in a paper grocery bag set on top of the green bin.  I found they do not take paper put into a cardboard box for some reason.

They may also have a place to bring your old computer for recycling.

Old appliances are torn down and recycled (unless it still works and you donate it somewhere).

In addition, it is helpful to be familiar with household hazardous waste, to know what you are and aren't allowed to throw away.  Our dump has an area for household chemicals and paint. The great thing is that you can not only drop off your old chemicals and paints, but you can take anything that is there for free.  It is a good place to get half a gallon of paint or stain for a small project, like a chair or table.

Note: You cannot recycle containers that once held hazardous or toxic chemicals.

  4. plastic and paper

  5. we have to put clean glass, plastics, paper, & cardboard into the recycle bin, if it is dirty (has food on it) it goes in the trash. i also have a green's bin for grass clippings, tree/bush trimmings, stuff like that.

  6. Where I live the trash man picks up only certain things; cardboard, paper, tin and aluminum cans, glass, and plastic with #1 or #2 on the bottom. We don't recycle cellophane here. I've lived in Europe . They recycle so much more than we do.  We could learn from them.

  7. you throw it away

  8. I recycle everthing into the trash can and let the garbage man pick it up.

  9. I take it you are using a drop-off bin to recycle, most likely provided by Waste Management? (light-blue bin). If you search the web for their name and the term "Recycle America" they have a downloadable list that you can use as a reference.

  10. I have a compost bin, for grass and raw fruit and veg peelings etc.

I take glass to bottle banks.

I am a little confused about the green bin, if I can clean things, ie. plastic bottles, cans and packets they go in the bin, thought this was ok, but maybe not. I put paper in too.

House hold item I take to tip and seperate them according to material.

Old clothes go to charity shops.
