Question:

Redundancy...Is this true?

The company I work for has served notice of redundancy on everybody. I understand that this means they have 28 days and at the end of the 28 days they do not need to give any notice and can make anyone redundant at any time. However... How long does this notice stand for? Or does everybody have to be on edge forever just in case they will be made redundant?

Let me know please.

  1. To serve notice of redundancy they must give you it in writing, if you have been with company 5 years they must give 5 weeks notice, 4 years 4 weeks etc, they can come in today and make you redundant today but must pay you for the notice not given. You have to been in the job for 2 years before qualifying for redundancy and under 45 1 weeks pay for every year there and over 45 1.5 weeks for every year there. Contact ACAS www.acas.co.uk and they will give all the answers. My company has been talking about making us redundant for several months and we have had great info from ACAS - if your company goes into liquidation etc you can claim the redundancy from the government, you might not get the full amount but do get something.
