Reformatting my computer?

First of all, how do I do this??

and how would I back up most of my files, such as the sims 2, pictures, chat logs and word documents etc.

Well you can backup your files by burning them to a DVD, CD, or flash drive.

For the formatting you can use the back up cd that came with the computer or it suggested you to make some of your own.

You can backup everything by saving the files to a cd.  To format, you can check the link below but all you really have to do is put your  XP backup cd in your primary drive and reboot. When the window comes up it will offer you boot menu F12. Push F12 then scroll down and select to boot from your cd. Highlight that and follow the prompts

Reformatting you computer, you only do that, because you want to reinstall windows or vista again. I would not know of any other reason.

You have never done it before you say. Is it really necessary to format you pc ??

When you are going to do it, you will indeed have to back up your personal documents, music, videos etc etc.

You can burn them to a dvd. but when you have a d drive ( i think most computers have more than 1 partition).you should make directories on the d drive and copy all your important files to those directories.

By doing that, you will not loose any of those files when you format your c drive.
