Refrigerator as an air conditioner?

Question

Just wondering if leaving the refrigerator and freezer door open would generate almost as much cold air as an air conditioner?

I know it would cost more in energy, I'm just trying to temporarily cool down my apartment.

no afraid not. the fridge is self contained so the heat is just expelled out of the back  and into the room.

It wouldn't do anything.  The vents are only made to make small places cool.  It will just run really hard, overheat which will make the room hotter and probably break.  Ultimately, you will have a broken fridge, a high electric bill and still a hot apt.. I feel for you and hope you get cool down.

actually it will just make the room hotter.  Refrigerators have condenser coils on the back of the unit, which is where the heat drawn out of the refrigerator volume is discharged to.  What actually will cause the room to get hotter will be the compressor and the compressor motor, which will generate heat as the refrigerator cycles.

Don't do it. It will cost you your 'fridge. If you leave the door(s) open, it will run constantly. They were not made to run that way and will burn out. Get an a.c. They don't cost much for a one room size.

Refrigerators, freezers, and ACs must follow the laws of thermodynamics, one of which states that these devices cannot operate at 100 % efficiency.  These devices ALWAYS produce more heat than they remove. Therefore, you will accomplish nothing except to heat up your room rather than cooling it. You will have a bigger electric bill and your refrigerator will wear out quicker.
