I just recently was given a Paint gelding that I now have trained. He is 3 years old and I would like to get him registered. What sort of process do I need to go through and what do I all need to know to do it?

  1. well you have to check if he was foal recorded. and if his dam and sire were reg.

paint reg can be tricky, especially if they were born at the wrong time of year.

and you also have to become a member of apha or phaa

    Edit

well i know that you have to download reg forms off the phaa or apha websites.

but you can't do anything until he's foal recorded

  2. First of all his sire and dam have to be registered in order to register him in APHA. My mare that i just bought for 3500 was papered. But in order to register your gelding you have to have his foal record and then get all shots and vacc. and then contact the APHA and ask them the proces. It wll probably cost around 150$

  3. Here is the web site for the APHA .... I have sent you to the Forms page.  You need to fill out a registration application with all the information .... of course the fees are included there .... APHA will let you know if you can register him or not ...

    Good Luck!

  4. Go to APHA.com website and go to the registration guidelines web page and you will get all the information you need in registering your gelding. However if you do not have a breeders certificate signed by the owner of the registered stallion at the time of the breeding from the original owner of the dam you cannot register your gelding and they do not reissue these certificates. Go to the website and read up on all the other paperwork and information you will need. Its all there! Wish you the best of luck!

  5. Usually there are substantial penalties for late registration, and different registries have different requirements and penalties.

You may have to pay extra if a stud report was not filed.

You may have to pay for DNA (parentage verification)

You WILL have to pay late registry fees, and they will likely be substantial.

You will need the sire and dams registration information.

Going to the APHA website is your first step upon getting the parents' info.
