  1. The oldest religion is Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism as is known today).

There is evidence up to 4000BCE. but it is known to be existed much before that.

  2. No religion, past or present, has ever been a true religion.

  3. I'm not sure if anyone knows what the pre-adamic races might have worshiped, but it was probably a rock or something. Your idea has a flaw: the further back in time you go, the more primitive and less advanced the people are, so the more easily impressed they would have been. Therefore, the first ever religious observance may have been due to a meteor landing or seeing a strange animal for the first time.

  4. Paganism is the oldest religion, even before we discovered fire and before the dinosaurs were wiped out, yes we were resourceful mice that stole dinosaur eggs making them very angry, it's a good job the universe loves us because the lying right wing (we looked to the heavens and saw round objects, then (during the day) we occasionally saw a (also round) unshielded nuclear reactor apparently in the centre of our solar system we named it the sun and then we thought, there's a pattern emerging, we turned around 360 degrees, looked at our curved fingernails (because we bit them) and decided the world was round) decided writing was the best way to control the masses and make money without doing much work. Moses decided his writing was 'a bit c**p' and deftly turned the situation around by blaming God. The later discovery of the hammer and chisel (used by the Jews to kill Moses entire family) was 'unfortunate'.

  5. It's cool that you're trying to think through these sorts of things, but you'll get better results if you study a bit more in the anthropology of religions.

  6. I am an atheist so it doesn't matter to me.  However I do believe at the very least, that all Christians should be Catholic.  Roman Catholic was the original Christian religion, and since then it has changed many times. Basically every time someone of power didn't agree with what the bible said, he branched off and started a new Christian religion which is why there is SO MANY.

  7. paganism

  8. Your logic is flawed; the original religion was probably some form of nature worship, pantheistic shamanism. It does not follow that the first religion has to be true! It was an attempt to understand the world based on pre-scientific ideas, and as flawed as any other theology!

  9. The first religion was probably ancestor worship or sun worshp.  There's evidence of this in early burial places.

The older such beliefs are, the more primitive they tend to be.

    Religion is superstition.

  10. Religion evolves. Hence, most christians today have vastly different beliefs and interpretations of the bible compared to christians living 200 years ago.

  11. Cannot follow your logic.  Sorry

  12. Oldest theological model was/is probably Animism. While even today there are religions based upon up it, it seems to go so far back in time that there's no way of knowing for certain what it's "followers" believed in. All we have a physical remains which have a striking resemblance to those used by modern animists such as shamans. And sometimes archaeologists get it wrong. I know of one instance where the archaeologists didn['t really know what something was, and so they thought it was a "religious item". A musician saw the item and figured out it was a musical instrument much like a digery-doo. It may have some religious significance, but it's primary function was making sound.

Another issue which comes up is modern Animists have different stories/interpretations of the world. They are heavily influenced by the environment/lands in which they live. They don't see other faiths as being inferior than their own, mealy "not relevant to them". As such they allow personal interpretation of the world.

I feel it's quite likely that Animism is what led to Systems theory

The entities within Animism (people, trees, the earth, spirits, etc) have a huge similarity to those needed to compartmentalise things within systems theory. These "black boxes have a behaviour (which determines how they react), and you could say it's a soul that's responsible for the choice of behaviour.

Take the base unit of your PC. It's a box. It has inputs and outputs, and it behaviour which relates the inputs to outputs. Open the case (with the power off!) and it's got more boxes inside it. You can't look inside these boxes as they're solid chips, but they also have behaviour. I visualise theres little "gnomes" running around inside the chips doing the sums, but know that with a different abstraction it's electrons that do the sums. I see no conflict between these two abstractions, and like "the blind man and the elephant", think they are both true.

Ultimately a "true"religious model is one which which is easy for the "beleiver" to understand and which accounts for EVERYTHING you observe/perceive. It's different for everyone....

  13. the thing with religion, is that they are simply beliefs of groups of people.

whether they were first or not, doesn't matter, what matters is that a group of people believe in something and it becomes their religion.

Personally, i think it is all a load of cobblers and that all religions start with one clever git who then warps the minds of his followers into believing the guff that he spews out.

you usually find in what we call 'sects' that the leaders are a bunch of loony tunes that have brainwashed their followers into believing their garbage and i reckon that it goes for all the big religions too.

people like to believe in God or Allah or Bambi or Harry Potter or whatever they choose, but the truth is that it is brainwashed into people from birth, all depending on where you live in this world.

if you were born in the middle of tibet for example, i am pretty sure that Jesus and Mary wouldn't be the main characters in your storybook.

Likewise, if you were born in a surrey village, i am sure that the great and mighty Allah wouldn't enter your life in any way.

the truth is, it's all about brainwashing from our peers and having things drummed into you by virtue of your geographic position in the world.

    cheers
