Question:

Removing contact lenses with long nails?

I've just gotten used to growing out my nails and recently I've found it very difficult to take my contacts out using my fingers. My eyes get red at every attempt, so I've stopped wearing contacts for a few days. Can someone (preferably a professional/optician) give me advice on how to take my lenses out with long nails? A visual aid (video or images) would be preferred! :D thanks.

PS. I do not want to trim my nails either.

  1. Yes, i wear contacts and it is rather different but you must train yourself to use the tip of your finger farther down then usual and hold your eyelid up with the other hand.

  2. Use one finger to lift your lower eyelid and a finger on the same hand to remove the contact. Angle your nails away from your eye.

  3. I like having long nails and contact lenses too.  I use the DMV soft lens handler to insert and remove my contacts.  It is great and really easy to use.

I have also tried the Contact 2 lens remover as well and it works well too.

Here is where to purchase the product

I also noticed that my contact last longer when using these products and was commended by my doctor for how well I cared for my eyes.

  4. handling your contacts with longer nails would not only have a chance of damaging your contacts but also your eyes. I would suggest you to atleast trim the nails of your index or middle finger, which ever you use to handle contacts.

  5. you will have to learn how to use the palm of your fingers instead of the tips of them.

But I know most eye docs would tell you that you need to trim them.
