Question:

Removing wallpaper stuff?

by  |  earlier

I'm taking down the wallpaper in my room. All of it is down, but there is a bunch of glue from where the strips of wallpaper came together. There are also small pieces of wallpaper all over the wall. I know that these will be a problem when I'm painting.

I have DIF and a steamer. I don't think the steamer will help me any. I know Dif works, but I need to know how to be able to use it effectively to geteverything off.

Help? Other suggestions encouraged!

P.S. Please answer my other question:

  1. spray the walls with warm water and soap mixture. Try to scrape off as much as possible- once dried take some sandpaper and sand down the rest. That should do it this is a very common problem in walllpaper removal.

  2. Reapply the DIF according to instructions, let it sit, then wash off with lots of water, changing the water frequently.  When the wall no longer feels like you have "oatmeal" on the wall, it is fine for painting.  You are right, you must get that paste completely off before proceding.

If you live in a dry climate and think the DIF is drying, after application, cover with plastic or even Saran Wrap and let it sit for an hour or even over night.

  3. use a lot of water and a putty knife. wet the wall a lot, use a big putty knife or a 8" taping knife and scrap it off the wall.

next use clean water and a sponge to wipe off the wall. clean the water often. if you don't get it all off the paint will look awful

    and start flaking off.

    good luck

  4. that is all the glue and paper left over from the wallpaper- get a spray bottle and fill it with HOT water and some fabric softener, - spray it all over your wall and let it soak for a few minutes, then scrap off with a flat edged scraper. once you have it all removed use a sponge and hot water to scrub down the walls and remove any excess.
