My window opening measures at 34" x 54". The closest I can find in stock is 32 x 54". Will this work or will I have to special order it?

  1. that's a rather common size window. is referred to as  a 2'-10" x 4'6". you might try other dealers that stock it, or yes, special order it. using the other window will involve revising your ext. siding and int. drywall and trim.

    Hope that helps.

  2. Be careful with this one. You have to be careful with replacement windows that you are measuring at the correct place. Most large home improvement stores have a pamphlet that deals with this. Also be careful as the window sizes that they stock are usually bold faced and sold as just rounded up numbers. The replacement window stocked is probably a 31 3/4 by 53 3/4. As sold, they usually have a spacer that will take up to 3/4 of an inch that is adjustable for the height. Sooo... you will have to special order this unit if you want it to look good without alot of funky shims. They are made in eighth inch increments so this is the reason to learn to measure at the right spots. It is too involved to describe by way of blog to get a firm understanding of where to measure. Once ordered always paid for!

  3. is it just the glass your replacing or the whole window. if it the glass then no you have to be closer in size than that. if it is the whole window, wood and all, or plastic, whatever then yes it should work if you place it with an inch at the top and an inch at the bottom and use something like expanding foam to seal the cracks then your trim will hide the cracks

  4. The first thing that raises a flag here would be whether or not you have made a correct measurement of the opening. This can sometimes be rather difficult without a little experience.

I would have to ask for a little more info before coming up with a reasonable solution.

What type of window are you replacing?

  5. 34" x 54" (net size) is a non-standard size. You won't find this on the shelf at Home Depot or Lowes. As the other responders mentioned you need to make sure you're measuring from the right place. This depends on the type of installation you're doing. One thing is for certain, you can more easily work with an undersized window (like in your case) than you can with an over-sized window.

Either way, I would get a window and door contractor out there to measure for you. You'll likely need to order a custom window for this size. The difference in price will be minimal. If you want to get a rough idea of what the cost would be you can get pricing at this website for custom sizes: http://www.thewindowstore.com - click "Get Pricing".

It will probably take a week or two for a custom window to be built and  delivered so make sure to plan accordingly.
