Reproducing an apple tree?

you know, like cutting a branch or root, letting it re-root in water, then planting it in dirt..... i dont know exactly what its called... but can you give me a few links of where to find the exact process??? (and the name of the procedure please!)

You are better off grafting it onto a good rootstock.
