can i use a 15 watt reptile black light to simulate night time in my aquarium?

  1. it all depends on what kind of hood you have. however, reptile lights usually produce heat, so that would melt your hood.

    they make lights like this for fishtanks that dont produce heat. they pretty much are standard black lights. petsmart has them and they arent very expensive at all.


  2. I wouldn't. Like it's been previously stated, reptile lights produce heat and chances are your hood is going to burn/melt because of it. There is a type of bulb that simulates moonlight, which is a florescent blacklight that will fit into your hood. The only downside to this is you have to change it out manually every time. The fish will need their regular lighting during the day.
