during the 1990's the roles, responsabilities and the influence of fathers were discusses by politicians and by sociologists. most farthers were married and living with all their biolodgical children where were still dependant on them. but changes in family lfe meant that some fathers had never been married, some had never remarried and some were devorced but not remarried. 4% of men born in 1940's have never been married by the age of 50. it is likely that sixteen per cent of men born in 1960's will not have married by the age of 50

please can you make sence of that for me please :)

  1. For revision, there are a lot of great resources on the net, just google 'sociology revision'. I am not sure which level you are studying, so I can't really help you any more than that.

Ginger's rewrite is good, and makes the text a lot easier to understand. I think it is interesting that marriage is becoming less important, as only 4% of men born in the 1940s would find themselves unmarried at age 50, whereas 16% of men born in the 1960's would. This has major implications for the notion of the nuclear family.

Polititicians tend to promote the nuclear family as the 'ideal' type because it has traditionally been an stable, economic unit. It is where the primary socialisation of children takes place, so can have a huge impact of how society develops.

  2. :s Lol

Think it's just saying that in the 90's most fathers were living in a family eg wife & 2 kids who were still dependant on them, but change in family life meant some fathers never got married by the age of 50. It's suggesting from that, that 16% of men born in the 60's will not have married by the age of 50......LOL!

    I don't actually know what u mean, i basically just rewrote that 4 u :S
