Richie Mccaw?

Question

People have been saying Richie Mccaw is over rated and i dont totally disagree, he is obviously one of the best openside flanker in the world but he has been called the best player in the world and i disagree with that! what do you think? No abuse im not a Mccaw hater!

besy flanker yes. but best player? debatable. Considering im irish you would expect me to say bod was the best back in the world but i think hes lost a lot of his steam of late but hopefully he'l return to form with eddie out of the way. at the moment im finding bryan habanas play extremely entertaining. he really is improving his game. top player for the future!

Richie Mccaw is the best player you just have to watch him play and he kicks ****. when he is not on the field we dont play that great.

McCaw is the best forward in the game no question, but it is hard in rugby to define the best player as forwards and backs are so different, as far as backs go i would have to say Brian Odriscoll is the best, but give Stephen Brett a few years and he will be a god of the game

I agree with you that Mccaw is one of the best open side flankers in the world because just watch the man! He isn't the strongest runner of the ball, however in comparison to other great modern flankers like Shalk Burger he has considerably good running skills because he can draw a runner and pass a ball, a lot of the modern day flankers are meaty gym monkeys who only play for the bosch!

This is where he differs, Mccaw is a great tackler and a great rucker (just watch where the fella ends up half the time it's just like "WHAT!!!") but he plays for the team and not for his own personal glory! i wouldn't say he was the greatest player in the world because he hasn't scored a great amount of points however he is definitely up there!

He is absolutely phenomenal at what he does.  He is the best flanker on the planet and maybe the best of all time at that spot.  

What makes me laugh is all the people saying he isn't the best player overall.  Thats all fine and good but none of them step up and nominate someone better.  It's pretty easy to say someone isn't the best.... I want to know who is better.  They're probably scared that everyone will say that the player they nominate isn't the best... kind of an endless cycle really.  lol

Those who criticise  McAwe, are paying a backhanded compliment to the man. He's obviously doing the job of an openside flanker and more by the verbal flak that is always directed at him by the opposition.

He ticks the boxes in all facets of a Seven, and barring any

injuries,or poaching from the Northern Hemisphere,  should be an integral part  of the AB team for a few more seasons yet.

richie is definately one of the best forwards in the world. his loose play and rough style is a joy to watch, defo not overrated. i do think though you'd have to choose a back as the worlds best purely down skill level. personally it has to be shane williams at the moment purely on form.....

i agree that mccaw has some flaws, but overall his skills are unmatched by any current rugby player... in the world.

its hard to compare past and present players but in my opinion he would have to be my number 1 pick for an openside for an all stars side of all time.

he is very physical and is very smart, he knows what to do and where to be both on offence and defence and leads by example. sure he gives away a few penalties every now and again, but the amount of times he is te first up tackler and then having the ability to regain his feet and stifle the ball from the opposition far outways the bad.

mccaw is simply a great player, only thing wrong is that he should be playing for the highlanders rather than the crusaders, bloody traitor!!!

mcaw is a very good player but he isnt the best of all time.Micheal jones is the greatest allblack flanker that NZ has produced,his  smarts,all round skill,anticipation and denfensive skills are second to none.

He had changed the whole style of rugby since the 87 world cup,the saying for years was 'to beat the allblacks,we have to take Jones out of the game".He is the only forward to be rated the best no.7 and then in later years becoming the worlds best no.6,this feat has not been matched.Mcaw is a very good forward but he is no Micheal Jones!!!
