Riddle help its killing me?

A man is found dead in a desert, no city around him, no cactus, no foot prints around him. And he has a straw in his hand. How did he die?

Not sure, but I assume he died of thirst/dehydration.

there was only one parachute.

they picked straws to see who got it.

the man on the sand got the shorter straw.
