Question:

Ripping up carpet over cement floors?

Our band room has carpeting in it (I know - yuck), but there's cement beneath the carpet. We were thinking of ripping the carpeting up ourselves.

Give us some tips on what we would do, how to get leftover adhesive off of the floor, what to do before we paint the cement, etc.

All help would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Are you sure that it is glued to the floor? It may be held in place by tack strips, along the walls. It may just be the tack strips, that are glued in place. If the whole thing is glued down, it is going to be a mess. It will probably involve a lot of work scrapping the floor with Putty knives, or scrapers. You can buy Acetone from just about any hardware center. It will help loosen the glue, from the cement.
