Road Bicycle Measurements?

Hello I am looking into purchasing a road bike that has a 25" frame - would that be a good fit for someone that is about 6 feet tall? I am about to purchase the bicycle online and cannot really see how big it looks. Thanks!

  1. Highly likely it's too big. That's why most people who answer size questions here either refer you to a bike shop or give a ballpark range, with the disclaimer that you must check it out yourself.

Since most all road bikes are measured in CM not inches I'll provide a guess in cm. My ballpark for you would be about 58 cm.

  2. just go to your local bike shop and compare sizes in the store

then you will know what works best for you and you can buy on line

  3. 25" will be way too big for you and you'll hate it unless you're only going to be doing short rides (like 5 miles or less).   MR is correct....at 6' tall, you should more than likely be in a 58cm frame.  A 25" frame is about 63cm.  I have an older british frame that's 24" (61cm) and it's too big for me (I'm also 6' and 58cm is usually spot-on for me).

A few centimeters doesn't sound like much, but trust us.....if you're going to be riding it much, you need to have the proper fit.  Or else, suffer.   :o)

  4. You need to learn what a properly fitted bike feels like. That's where you can take advantage of your local bike shops. Go to one and let them show you what size is correct for you. Test ride the bike. That way you will have apple to apples comparisons for other bike shops or other sources, such as buying online. Don't feel overly obligated to buy a bike from the first shop that fits you. If their bike is not the best value proposition, they do not deserve your business. Besides, you'll be back to buy tires, tubes, parts, accessories, and even clothing. I have heard they make more money from that stuff than they do from the bikes.
