Roberto Mancini hails unfortunate Manchester City
Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini believes that his team is extremely close to matching the standards their city rivals have set in the recent years.
He said that his team is moving in the right direction. His comments came after their 1-2 defeat to long time rivals Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
The former Sampdoria striker added that his side was very unfortunate to lose to United on Saturday after Wayne Rooney’s stunning overhead kick proved to be the decider.
City’s defeat against United has put a huge dent on their title hopes. They are now in 3rd place with 49 points and are 8 points behind leaders Manchester United, who still have a game in hand.
Mancini said that his side should improve and if the players keep playing like they played at Old Trafford, it would be great. The manager praised his side’s performance and said that he was very proud of the way City played. He said that his team showed
the temperament of a top side when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-Silva-c10601 scored and they thought that they would eventually win but it was unlucky for them to have lost the match in that way.
“After we equalised, I thought we could go on and win. United didn't play well in the second-half but Rooney's goal changed the game. This is the mentality that comes when you have been winning things for a long time,” said http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323.
Roberto Mancini repeated the fact that the club had improved a lot in the past one year under him. He said that City have all the quality and players to match United as a team. The Italian stated that his side only has to win a cup or a title to grow in
confidence. He added that some silverware would definitely be a psychological boost for the team and they can go further.
“We can change this though, because we have changed a lot and improved a lot as a team. I think we need to win one cup or one title because, if we do, then we can change the whole mentality of the team,” the Manchester City Manager said.
Roberto Mancini joined Manchester City in 2009 after Mark Hughes parted ways with the club. City have since then spent heavily in acquiring new players. The Manchester side narrowly missed the Champions League spot in the 2009-10 season to Tottenham Hotspur,
finishing 5th at the end of the season. But they have been brilliant in the current 2010-11 season and have remained in the top 4 throughout. Although chances of City winning the title now are bleak, they are surely going to be in the Champions
League next season.
