The Uruguayan International was shown a yellow card by the match official in the first half, as he thought that the Reds hit-man had fallen deliberately to win the set piece.
However, the replays suggested that Suarez was tripped by John O’Shea, and was unfortunate to go into the referee’s book.
The game, which was played in the Stadium of Light on Saturday, ended in a 1-1 draw. Steven Fletcher put the home side in front through a peach of a shot in the 29th minute, but the lead was wiped out by Suarez in the 71st minute.
On the subject of the striker being shown a controversial yellow card, Rodgers felt that his player was being hard done by the referee. He insisted that Suarez has got an excellent attitude on the field, and praised his overall performance in the match.
“The only side I know is he is a real good guy, a wonderful football player and a very good man,” the manager told the reporters.
“He comes in and works very hard. I have not seen anything [bad]. His finish was outstanding. He always causes problems, he's had to play in a couple of positions, but I though overall he was outstanding.”
The draw kept the Ulsterman waiting for his first win in the EPL, since taking over the reins of Anfield in June.

Nonetheless, the 39-year old commended the fighting spirit shown by his team on Saturday, and felt that a point was the least they deserved out of the fixture.
“We are disappointed with the goal, we dominated the first half and then conceded the first goal against the run of play…We will take a point, although we are disappointed not to take all three,” he added.
